I don’t want the enemy to have it either, but I’ve cooled down some since that happened, and I’ve started to think of all the inconvenience that my quitting Paypal would cause. Sigh. I’ve been on there for at least 20 years. I’m still being yelled at that I should get rid of them. But how many sites that take Paypal also take other competitors? (Who ARE their competitors, for that matter? Only Paypal is a ‘household name’.)
Shoot, half the time I use an unfamiliar online site, it’s only because they will take Paypal and I won’t have to give the site my CC info. We buy everything but food online, and I do 95% of online shopping for both of us, so it’s easy for DH to sit there telling me to quit them. But I’m also the one who also has many small automatic payments coming in, as well as going out, through Paypal. And I don’t know what my alternatives are - multitudes of tiny checks through snail mail that I have to remember and keep track of? Ugh! I don’t know, at this point. Paypal is asshoe, but they’re the only name everyone recognizes.
Funny about staying on the phone all day if necessary - we only get allotted something like 2 hours of outgoing calls a month on our plan. Everything above that is billed exorbitantly, but it’s usually more than enough for us. I hate making phone calls. lol

Square and Stripe are alternatives, but I don’t think they are any less political. Gab is working on a new payment system, but I don’t think it’s ready yet.
