MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (WDJT) - A 70-year-old woman says she was repeatedly punched in the face by a Walmart employee after the two had a verbal argument. She says no one tried to help her and is now encouraging anyone who witnesses a similar incident to step in.
Police responded to a Walmart location in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, around 7:00 p.m. July 7 for reports of a 70-year-old woman who was punched multiple times in the head by a 17-year-old cashier.
The victim, P.K. Shader, sustained injuries to the head and face but did not require immediate medical attention. She says this kind of behavior from employees is unacceptable.
“It has been quite a journey. Why anyone would do that? I don’t know. And why no one helped is even more, especially in a Walmart store,” Shader said.
Both the employee, identified as Jazareia Velasquez, and Shader indicated the incident arose over a verbal argument. According to the criminal complaint, Shader asked to speak to a manager after having a negative interaction with Velasquez. She also attempted to take a picture of the employee to report her.
“She went crazy. She flew, and she punched me, fist right here [in the face] over and over again,” Shader said. “I’m never walking into Walmart again, that’s for sure.”
Velasquez was arrested and later charged with aggravated battery to an elderly person and disorderly conduct.
Shader says what took her by surprise the most was that no one stepped in to help her during the incident, even though employees apparently knew of Velasquez’s temperament.
“What if it was your grandmother? What if it was your mother?... The managers knew she was a loose cannon. The first manager said nothing. The second one told me so.

There is an old adage and a good piece of advise when the time comes: “When you find yourself in a hole the first thing you want to do is quit diggin’.” I’ll add, “And retreat gracefully.”
Agreed. A lot of attorneys would LOVE to sue Walmart, even if the attacker was an employee of color.
I avoid this very situation EVERY day! I stay out of communist wisconsin. It has worked every day.

There can never be a justification for a teenager to pummel a 70 year old.
This happened over a verbal altercation, and nothing the old lady could say would justify her being beaten, even if she called the young one a nagger.
I don't know what was said, but it doesn't matter, under the law the old woman was in the right.
Chivalry is just the balls to do what is right whenever the opportunity arises. One should respond the same when an old man is being pummeled in that manner.
I agree. AND I would insist it be filed as Walmart allowing an employee to perpetrate a hate crime against a customer. I’d use that phrase every time I could.

It’s disgusting language and exclusive, and actually totally inaccurate. It isn’t male appendages that go squishy and evacuate when in fear. That’s why decent people in the past said “guts”. And it’s “gutsy” to step in.

It is a serious issue. We really do need to oppose this “social engineering” at every possible opportunity. We need to stop with the “Oh well... That’s just how it is, no choice but to bend over and take it”.
No... Voice that it is not going to fly, and that you will take your dollars elsewhere. Enough threaten their pocket book and they will indeed back off. Compliance and capitulation just makes them even braver and empowers them.
I have left loaded carts a couple times now while telling the manager on the way out that I am on my way to shop all over again somewhere else because they have actually have check out clerks at the counter and you do not.

Enough just walk out and leave the cart and they will fix this pronto. And not just check out, with everything. Just say no I am not buying it under these conditions of the extortion business model and walk away.

Off my soapbox, but I’m disgusted by this constant sexual obsession in public. Better that this ugliness stop, along with all the foul hostile language that’s been flying around. That is the purview of liberals who display such in all their “protests”.
I also actually understand why men tend to come to the rescue less frequently in these times. Not only are women ungrateful, they also strive to demasculate men. So, the case we are discussing was probably a case of "when two bitches collide", making watching it entertaining all the while letting one reap what was sowed.

My parents both would slap me silly for speaking foul. Frankly I need to work on it hard. But I’ve never used male anatomy, just guts. Which frankly makes more sense because humans as well as their animal Cousins get funny in the gut and evacuate the bowels when scared. (Some vomit.)
The point of having “guts” was exactly that you could get past that fear.
As for women, you are talking about guts to step in on beatings. These days it takes guts to step in for anything, including foul language, foul t-shirts, poor behavior, seeing a shoplifter, anything. I’ve seen women do that plenty as I have myself and my sister. We are not just “ungrateful”, either. Stop painting us all with one big brush.

I appreciate you hanging in here and admire your tenacity; but, I plan to make no changes in response to your complaints.
Stepping in to stop beatings does not take guts. It takes decency and a simple willingness to do what is right. Even the wimpiest among us should be capable of that. But, both contestants were women. Would it have been acceptable to bash the aggressor with a ball bat? How does one intervene in a cat fight without sustaining injury?
I say if a woman deserves it, she deserves it. Too many feral animals acting the beast to deserve heavy decorum.
I suspect I’d be pretty fond of you if I met you eyeball-to-eyeball.
