Are your peaches local?

I did my own experiment, with peaches....

We LOVE Fredericksburg peaches, that we can get, in July, in the TX hill country.

A couple of years ago, we tried the Georgia peaches....they had a truck delivery, near my sis, and we were able to try some.

Well, to us....there’s no comparison...the Fredericksburg peaches *won*, hands down. Maybe it’s a Texas thing :-)

I have canned, baked, and, froze the Fredericksburg peaches....and, they’ve done well, in all.

My fave is to make a peach cobbler and homemade vanilla ice cream. Mmmmm.

Only someone from Texas would say they have better peaches than Georgia, lol! 😏

No we have no local peaches here. They bring peaches in from the various States depending on which area has the ripe peaches. Starting with those horrible Georgia ones :-) I believe the batch I got came from Pennsylvania. Likely having to do with the ripeness and the Mennonite contacts in Pennsylvania.

Actually I’ve never really liked any of my canned fruit. It just ends up too soft. These peaches did fine with baking. They held their shape okay, tastred better after baking than before, pretty weird. They’re just not great for eating, the texture is a bit rubbery so they are supposed to hold up better in canning. Except for me. I guess i don’t like canned fruit so I don’t know why I thought this would be any different. I tried freezing some, didn’t like the texture one bit after it’s thawed.

In the middle of winter, I might like it all better.

I didn’t know Fredericksburg grew peaches. I’ve been there for a German dinner a couple of times. What other crops like that does Texas have? I never thought of Texas as a big farming state. Although they did try to go cow corn around Corpus.
