That’s what I could never figure out. If they moved the May date back to Sept 11, why? 9/11 isn’t any day of celebration for the US. There is nothing to remember in any happy way.
Turning the country of Afghanistan over to the Taliban (which everybody knew would happen, no matter how we left) on 9/11 is only a win for the Taliban.

I think the date it was moved back to was 8/31 (not 100%-didn’t research).
But 11 days is close enough for gubmint work.
May 1 is the traditonal date when the spring offensives begin by the Taliban.
They come from their winter quarters in Pakistan (South Wazirastan) and start their mischief.
Trump wanted to be out of there by then, by May 1.
But Biden extended that to 9/11/21. This allowed the Taliban to gets their troops in position to start taking over provincial capitals in May, June and July.
And you are right, 9/11 is a somber day here.The Taliban would be in control, or an equal partner with the Afghan gov’t, so how could that be interpreted in any way other than a win for the Taliban.
Just another proof that this whole thing is deliberate.
