Overnight there was an apparent firefight at the airport, likely against some elements of Taliban forces. Taliban leadership continues to say that they will not interfere with evacuation operations and that it is even safe for Afghans there to return home. Within the past hour as i type this, air traffic at the Kabul air port is shut down again as Afghans swarm the runways and tarmacs. One commercial plane has essentially been taken over by the crowds and unable to depart. In one video, an Afghani apparently tried to tie himself to the wheel of a C17, and was observed falling from the plane shortly after take off. Other videos of Afghanis running along side a C17 trying to get on as it taxied out for takeoff with some sitting main landing gear door.
Afghan military plane has reportedly been shot down over Uzbekistan according to their defense ministry. No word yet on type of aircraft.
Taliban have started door to door search looking for govt officials, former police & security forces members & those who worked for foreign countries NGOs or infrastructures in Afghanistan.
Two people are dead and two have recovered after being infected with melioidosis — a disease that had never before been detected on contiguous US soil. Melioidosis has now been seen in Georgia, Kansas, Texas and Minnesota, LiveScience reported. The only other known cases of melioidosis in the US were in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean.
None of the four patients claimed to have traveled outside the country prior to becoming sick between March and July of this year. NOTE - No mention of them coming into contact with one of the millions of illegals that have poured across the border this year
