I took the Ancestry DNA test and didn’t know any of the people Ancestry said were related to me so I took it again (using a fake name) thinking they had made a mistake.

The results came back the same.

After doing a bit of research with the help of a genealogist, it turns out my mother had an affair while she was married to the man I thought was my Dad.

So I’m half Scottish, not half Polish.

She’s dead now and so is my bio Dad whom I never got to meet. He had no other children.

Similarly, I sent in a sample from both of my parents and found that the man my mom thought was her dad, wasn’t. Fine with me, as he abandoned my grandmother while she was pregnant. Of course that might also explain why he left. I did find out she has a half sister, and that UK has really tight privacy laws. You can have pretty much anything deleted, including birth and marriage records going back over a hundred years. Probably to protect the royals.

My FIL was adopted, and found his half brother and sister when he submitted DNA. He had been searching unsuccessful for a decade. He and his brother look like twins, and have almost exactly the same interests and hobbies. It’s uncanny.

I haven’t sent my own in, but I wouldn’t exactly be shocked if I found out something surprising. As for the OP, if anyone believes the lizard story, I have a bridge for sale.

Ancestry kit was pretty accurate for me. My son showed up as probable child relation as he was sent in under a different account. Everything matched my family tree lineage. I’m happy with it.
