Of all the holdings my parents had, their account at Schwab was by far the biggest pain in the arse to resolve, transfer and close. Also their work with the customer was nil. I always told my dad to transfer it over to Merrill Lynch but he refused.

In fact Schwab’s engagement with the customer is so bad it should be criminal.

Merrill Lynch on the other side of things were hands on and quite a pleasure to work with.

Just an anecdote.

my 401k through work to date has made +.7 % on my acct. I only have it for the matching. My personal investments managed by me are never less than 10-300% overall.

Schwab was the first of the great no-fee brokers weren’t they? Might be why customer service level was low.

Not that I mean to be sticking up for Scwabs, especially that Klaus. Ever since I heard him talking about the “schmaaalll peeepole” once I’ve known that one for a demon.
