Watch what happens at the Olympics. My guess — dozens or low hundreds of cases of athletes testing positive, about 10% of them ever report feeling ill, and of those only one or two get seriously ill (and how different would that be from a normal unreported amount of sickness among ten thousand athletes at an Olympics?) ...
then media speculation stories about Japan either (a) being subjected to a wave of new cases, or (b) having a lot of positive tests but there again little if any change in public health.
What Japan needs to avoid is any Chinese inspired mischief since it seems obvious to me that China unleashed this in the first place and one possible project of theirs is to discredit their enemy Japan (whom they hate for two reasons, can’t compete with the lifestyle, and the wartime atrocities which are pretty much something everyone else has moved on from nowadays). I think they might try to disrupt the Olympics in some way to embarrass Japan. We shall see.
But for sure there will be various athletes in tears because they can’t throw their spears or heavy balls or run like the dickens, and finish 12th to gain a pat on the back from the Minister of Sport back home. It’s a tragedy of great shall we say vast proportions.
