Any “civilization” around long enough was and will be undone eventually by change, and yes even the dynamic changes of earth’s weather and climate cycles.
Who survived them the longest? Those who ADAPTED.

What sort of life decision tree finally leads to a degree (probably advanced) and employment in the study of the decomposition of ancient human feces layered on the bottom of lakes and rivers?
(I suspect that just getting a living wage-paying job in the field is cause for celebration.)
Then I wondered how you would answer the politely asked question “what do you do for a living?” when asked by an attractive someone at a social gathering?
I suppose a polite answer could be ‘Fertilizer analyst’- or ‘waste product purveyor’
