This story is full of holes. It says his parachute did not deploy. What they drop him 20 feet above the house. No parachute + A long fall= Death. So why is he still alive?

It said it didn't fully deploy. It was partially deployed and slowed his descent a bit, just not as much as desired.

It sounds like a partial malfunction. The parachute would still be slowing his fall somewhat but not to the degree it should to prevent injury.

Actually, landing on the roof may have saved him from more serious injury or death because falling through it “broke his fall”.
