It’s true that the United Church was also complicit in the residential schools scandal. I believe the residential schools were receiving support money from the government and everyone wanted their piece of the action. It doesn’t take much imagination to understand what often happens in those circumstances.
While they call themselves the United Church of Canada, Canada doesn’t have a “state church”. The United Church of Canada was simply a union of the Methodists, the Congregational Union of Ontario and Quebec, the Presbyterians, and the Association of Local Union Churches (regional churches) and never approached the membership or power of the Catholic Church, even at its peak.
I grew up in the United Church of Canada. Then it pretty well became the religious arm of the commie party and started pandering to the usual suspects.
Worked out so well for them that my Dad’s church in Ottawa just had to sell their building to make ends meet.

Thank you for the correction. At some point in near future I am going to by Kevin Annett’s book on this issue. The fact a government and church’s would collude to do these evil things is scary and to know it went on for over a century with everybody ignoring the elephant in the room. The numbers he estimates are humongous. Thanks again!
