Twitter said they were also announcing a ‘pause’ on ‘future office reopenings, effective immediately’
In an announcement, the company said it was because of the Delta variant
But CEO Jack Dorsey’s plans to turn the company remote predate the pandemic
In a 2019 earnings call, he said the San Francisco office doesn’t serve the company well
He also encouraged staff in 2018 to work from home because he’d been doing it and he found it productive
The company says the pandemic escalated a plan that was already in place
Earlier on Wednesday Google and Facebook announced they were making COVID vaccinations compulsory for when staff return in the fall
The changes are all in light of the Delta variant sweeping the country and causing a spike in hospitalizations in areas of largely unvaccinated people
