I hadn’t seen reports until you mentioned it. I looked at Kentucky’s wildlife page and for them, it seems limited to a few counties. They said it doesn’t appear to be impacting other bird populations, such as wild turkeys.
First I thought maybe it was some sort of herbicide or insecticide, but it’s not affecting ALL birds. Next thought is bad commercial bird seed. I bought a big bag of sunflower seeds from Lowes recently that had a big moldy area low in the bag; I’m guessing somehow moisture got into it. I threw it out, but it does make me wonder.
The blue jays, grackles and starlings at my feeder seem to be the same as usual!
Thanks for the report! I hope whatever it is, it goes away. When the bees started dying, I had my own conspiracy theory that radio waves could cause it, with cell phones, etc. Lo and behold a few years later some “expert” published the same theory!
Finally checked my mail and got the postcard from Uranus! Thanks! I actually don’t remember the last time I received a real postcard, and one from good ole route 66 at that!
