Speaking of "where they came from", a lot of proud new black African naturalized citizens can't stand "African Americans".

During WWII (and after), the term “Americans of Japanese ancestry” or “AJA” came into use. Supposedly the Japanese wanted to remember what was most important - America. (my interpretation after talking with a couple of Nisei veterans of the 100th Inf Bn/442nd RCT)
