Dogs are judged solely against the immutable standard for their own breed.
Most dogs, you can see the structure, balance and conformation of the dog, not to mention observing the breeds’ correct movement and gait.
Unless you literally grope the dog, who knows what’s under all that hair.

Oh I know my in-laws were heavily into the dog show world.

All brachycephalic breeds are eternally suffocating for the sake of “cuteness”.
German Shepherd’s are always on the clock. On stand-by 24-7. World’s hardest working breed.

Been binge watching Aussie. youtube channel “BondiVet” lately. Aside from the curious and weird native fauna, the pug nosed breeds suffer terribly from pulmonary infections, jaw/tooth, and other problems associated with the deformities. Never understood the attraction for these poor dogs.
Surprised with the Dobe turn out. Out of favor breed right now, at least from their highs in the late 80’s.
Right on and don’t get me started on the Brachys.

They were 13-15 for the longest time but currently, the mystery of DCM taking out so many young dogs has people backing away from them.

No one knows what’s causing it and if they say they do, they are lying.
That’s how we got the “no grain free!!!” hysteria that benefitted Purina, Royal Canin and other crap foods who coincidentally, funded the “research”.
I see some validity to the legume issue since legumes block taurine *however* that would apply to taurine deficiency/diet related DCM such as Golden Retrievers get.
No one really knows, it’s hammering a lot of dogs “suddenly” and it’s heartbreaking.
Life without one is not living, for me, so I have to just hope for the best.

I love all dogs because, well, *dogs*. :)
However, there are breeds that I wouldn’t personally own simply because I prefer a dog that can do a job.
Yes, I have Dobes and until 2019, Ibizan Hounds.
I also have an elderly Portuguese Podengo Medio.
So I like the Hound and Working groups most, followed by the Terrier group because if I hadn’t spent my life with Dobes, I would have had Bull Terriers.
I also adore Borzoi and someday hope to have a Plott Hound.
/and every other dog on earth, because *dogs*

Use of dogs to trigger a search needs to be meticulously recorded, with actual outcome.
And alerting by any dog which has over 50% “false alarm” rate should no longer qualify as “probable cause”.
Me too! because...*dogs*! lol! I just prefer the larger breeds but show me a dachsund puppy or any other pup and I turn into a puddle. :)
