Actually, it has more to do with wanting to find a reasonable explanation for some rather outlandish observations and an avalanche of testimony. An ET solution seems more likely than some of the more mundane theories.
So a solution that includes a belief in something for which there is no credile evidence is what seems most probable to you. Amazing.
