Less than a quarter of Black Americans have received their first Covid-19 shot. That's less than other racial and ethnic groups tracked by the CDC.
The Biden administration knew the key to a successful Covid vaccination campaign would be reaching the most vulnerable populations. But more than five months in, even a blueprint that’s worked with other ethnic and racial groups isn’t doing enough to win over Black Americans.
Less than a quarter of Black Americans had received their first Covid-19 shot as of June 7 based on available federal data, amid a weekslong stagnation that has defied the government’s ramped-up effort to accelerate vaccinations and reach the nation’s most vulnerable communities.
The slowdown has put Black Americans behind the pace set over the past month by other racial and ethnic groups tracked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The trend line worries health officials and experts who say the immunization drive is running into a particularly complex web of distrust, outreach challenges and stubborn barriers to access.
“It’s a tough layer that we have to address — it requires relationship building and it’s going to take a little longer,” said Octavio Martinez, executive director of the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, who sits on the White House’s Covid-19 Health Equity Task Force. “We have a systemic issue here.”
One of the task force's first assignments was recommending ways to build trust in the vaccines and effectively roll them out to those marginalized communities — chief among them Black Americans who are dying from Covid-19 at disproportionate rates. Some early ideas were incorporated into the administration vaccination plan crafted within the White House, task force members said. Yet as the panel has shifted its focus to other, long-term health equity issues in recent months, vaccine disparities have persisted.

Not in these parts (Western NY). The attitude seems to be universal. Only folks wearing masks are the ones who’ve taken the jab. MOST black folks I see are NOT masked (My family not included, of course).
And to the other observation:
First, only MAGA republicans were part of the “control group”. Now, it’s 75% of the black folk?
MAGA - black folks? perhaps there’s a correlation?
Just goes to show you can’t always believe what you read in the press...

I did not know that native Americans voluntarily shot themselves, starved themselves, and infected themselves to voluntarily reduce their population by 95% and then chose the shittiest land to form their own tiny reservations!
Thanks for enlightening me with the knowledge the federal and state governments stopped the native Americans self-suicide and that evidence to the contrary is just in the movies. I have to rethink everything.

Yep. In one instance the tone of the reporting is our horrible racist society failed these people. In the other instance it is these horrible racists have failed society and will spread variants and mutations everywhere.

I think number one there was a lot of support for Trump with Blacks in this country and everything about this virus has been politicized ad nauseum, and the media has openly stated their duty was to defeat this man. Secondly I think Blacks are doing us conservative Trump supporters a huge favor by being skeptical about this free vaccine they're dishing out in parking lots.
Blacks have been the rock stars of the whole victim narrative for a while now. Hard for the leftists to throw them under the bus right now.
And President Grant didn’t commit the planned slaughter of the buffalo to starve out the Plains tribes like the the Blackfoot, Arapaho, Assiniboine, Cheyenne, Comanche, Crow, Gros Ventre, Kiowa, Lakota, Lipan, and the Kiowa Apache. They killed millions of animals to do it too.

Probably true. People who are struggling have bigger things to worry about than a bad flu. For most blacks COVID is just "white people's problem" and there is something to be said foe that. Hell, I am white and I despise the cretins in our government and their idiotic, repressive laws and, if I was black, I would have even less trust.
Maybe Joe could start a lottery to hand out cartons of Kools or Newports when you present a vax card. Use the current supply of smokes and ban production of new....
Just about the only folks I see wearing masks here in Atlanta area are black. Middle class and ghetto both.
I think their fears of the vax were enhanced when they saw a healthy Hank Aaron on local news take the vax and encourage other to do it, and then he drops dead a week or so later. Could just be a coincidence, I suppose.
The vaccination demographics that CDC reports, don’t seem to have African Americans so far behind the average as this story does:

Also, CDC reports a pickup in Black and Hispanic first shots over the last couple of weeks.
