Naomi Osaka withdraws from French Open after choosing to avoid media

Tennis star Naomi Osaka said Monday she is withdrawing from the French Open after refusing to speak to the media at the grand slam.

The four-time major winner posted a statement on Twitter saying she was pulling out so that "everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris," adding that she would "take some time away from the court." Osaka revealed she had "suffered long bouts of depression" since winning her first Grand Slam title in 2018.

Last Wednesday, citing mental health reasons, Osaka posted on social media she would not participate in any news conferences during the French Open, hoping that any fines she incurred would go toward a mental health charity.

Following her straight set victory on Sunday, Osaka was fined $15,000 for not talking to the media, Roland Garros announced in a statement.

I don’t know why anyone would want fame. It seems detrimental to mental health in many ways.

Oh, well. We don’t know these people, anyway.

And there media has to pay the bills which requires watchers - unless you are CNN. And the way you get watchers is that you entertain them.

I think they should pay her to keep quiet and we would all be happy.

Milana Vayntrub, on the ATT commercials, is a bit chunky and, most likely, is hiding behind the desks, etc to hide a bit.

I suspect Bourdain was murdered, along with Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell.

“Anthony Bourdain didn’t kill himself over a bad clam.”

Indeed he did not. This is a nice letter that Bourdain’s friend Rose McGowan wrote. Bourdain didn’t listen to his doctor’s recommendation; apparently Osaka is.

I don’t care about what professional athletes have to say - so her refusing a press conference certainly doesn’t bother me.

I don’t even care about their sports achievements - she can play or not play for all I care - and if she wants to set her own terms - I say good for her.

Because the people she is pissing off - the press and the “sponsors” who pay for phony endorsements - they are parasites - bottom feeders.

The whole f’d up industry can ESAD for all I care.

I get enough sports watching my grandchildren play in school where there is less money involved. Even college sports is poisoned by the parasites.

Face it - the entertainment world is a meat-grinder - kids go in as normal human beings - 99% don’t make it and are screwed up by the sense of failure - and the 1% who become celebrities are screwed up even worse.

the two women just kinda struck me as havign the same kind of elitist attitude- I know the tennis player is mentally struggling, but still- she doesn’t think her fans deserve to hear abotu her? I dunno- just kinda sounds like the girl from the commercials who feels she is so wonderful that dweebs don’t get to see her because they are unworthy?-

Maybe I’m wrong about osaka- but an article the other day made it sound like she was snubbing the press, and her fans i nthe process-

You can read her attitude here:

https://www.foxsports.com.au/tennis/french-open/ash-barty-stuns-tennis-fans-at-french-open-extremely-rare-scene/news-story/a485b1e4e8d048875ac6333072b66abc?recommendedCount=0

She’s now however claiming that the reason for not wanting to talk to reporters, and by extension, her fans, is due to her depression- but that’s not how she first sounded-
