It’s been so great to go into stores these past few weeks without dutifully putting on my fake mask. But most people where I shop are still masked up. And some of them seem to be doubling down hard. It’s so sad.

I feel so sorry for the kids. There was a mom with two young children in the aisle at BJ;s wholesale club that I had just turned into. The kids were cavorting in the middle of the aisle, just being typical kids, but with masks on. When the mom saw me coming, she quickly went into protective ‘mother bear mode’, and pulled each of them by their shoulders toward her. She got them right up plastered against the side of the aisle, all three of them huddled together, and she looked at me disapprovingly, but not saying a word, as I pushed my cart past them.

What kind of message are these poor kids getting from such parenting? Are they falling for it, and becoming afraid of any strangers who dare show their faces? What a sick mindset.

Later, in a different section of the same store, I chanced to walk toward and past a man from opposite directions; not only was he masked up from below his chin to just under his eyeballs, but he had on long, industrial quality rubber gloves up past his elbows. Right as we passed each other, he let out a loud, low “Harrrrruummmmph!” obviously directed at me. I’ve never had anything like that happen before, and was taken aback. If I’d had my wits about me, I told my husband, I would have “Harrrrruummmmph!”-ed right back at him!

I bet these particular folks and their likeminded ilk must hate Gov. DeSantis with a passion, and will try their darnedest to get rid of him. I hope they’re in a minority statewide!

Time for another episode of 'What Would Bagster Do'.

Bagster would have slowed to a stop with a thoughtful, searching look on his face. Eye-balled the baked beans right next to the terrified mole lady, and sauntered over to check the ingredients very slowly on the cans. Maybe mumbling them out loud. "42% carbohydrates...hmmmm".

The game would be, how long till the mama sheep scampered off with her little lambs. Or...better yet, till she opened her Karen maw and said something.

That's when the games REALLY begin.

I went to the grocery store the other day, soon after they lifted the mask requirement. About half of the people inside (both customers and staff) were masked.

The greeting lady at the front door was not wearing a mask. When I entered the store, I looked at her, smiled and said “Good Morning!” she did likewise.

When I left, she cheerfully said “Thanks for stopping by!” and I smiled again at her, said thank you to her as well and also remarked that it was sure good to see her smile.

She looked at me and said “It’s great to see everyone smile again!”

Made my day!

I feel ya, Strings. I encounter them everywhere, and always engage the employees in conversation, usually within earshot of a masking customer.

In Home Depot yesterday, employee asked me if I needed help (a rarity there). After politely chatting for a few secs, I said “ I see they’ve still got you breathing your own exhaust”, He says “No, it’s my choice to wear it, I’ve been fully vaccinated so I’m not worried”.
