We have lots of copperhead here in NC. I see them all the time.
Last week my dog was bitten by one and had to go to the vet.
A few years ago my wife stepped on one in the carport at night and it nailed her in the ankle. She drove to the hospital immediately and got a copperhead anti-venom shot. It cost $25,000! The insurance paid $12,000+.
Copperheads freeze rather than flee, and they blend in so good that they often get stepped on. Then they bite in self defense.
I carry a 4’ snake rod in my vehicle and use it several times a year. Local groups relocate them away from populated areas.
#12 I will not move to North Carolina!!
