That literally is what the CDC does. Reactive, extremely conservative, with no bearing on economic impacts, etc. we can discuss and likely agree on the many missteps in at least messaging, if not other aspects, but you just described what they exist to do. That isn’t a question.

Please explain - is your quoted snip a confirmation that the virus has killed people or a questioning of whether COVID has killed people?

Again - that isn’t a question, and in all honesty if you don’t believe that COVID has directly resulted in deaths, especially among vulnerable populations, intelligent discussion is likely not gonna happen.

Here is where you goes off the rails for me. To my knowledge the CDC isn’t involved in border policy or implementation. Part of the federal government, sure, agree. So are the Marines, but I certainly wouldn’t lump them in with the CDC or the morons now in charge of border policy.

So, I can’t make the same leap you do, and am not sure how any logical person could without throwing the baby out with the bath water.

To answer your question - as directly as I can since it is very qualified and convoluted - we should not trust them. We should look at the data, we should use our intellect, reason, and talents to review the data, see if it makes sense or raises questions and dig in.

Data has a paper trail, policies don’t. What the OP presents each day is data - if you have reason or source of information that such data is flawed, for the good of everyone please bring it.

Otherwise - your unconnected connections only muddy the waters on real and important issues.
