There were a number of black slave owners. Particularly when the lines between slavery & indentured servitude were still legally blurred. “Many” seems to be a bit of an exxageration. The free black slave owers were an interesting group. What extraordinarily talented people to be able to not only make do but prosper in a relatively hostile environment. There are also instances of slaves owning slaves. Books on the subject. Considering the intellectually dishonest age we live these books must be read with a critical eye !

Yes there were but not in the US by 1860. Though indentured servitude didn't leave the books until the early 1900s. I think Delaware was the last to remove it in 1980. Land-O-Biden so progressive !

Yes there were. The “5 Civilized Tribes” tried to mimic plantation culture and got to go to Oklahoma as a reward for their efforts.

Definitely true ! So bad its a hidden holocaust done on European people who lived close to and made their living on the Mediterranean. Of course these enslavers were entirely Muslim mostly North African not sub-Saharan Africans. Here's a good book on the subject.

The court case that established the legal foundation of slavery was a Virginia case of a free black - Anthony Johnson permanently retaining the services of a black indentured servant - John Casor.

When it comes to human slavery no history , no race, no civilization can claim to be clean of it. Western civilization is the only one that actually made an effort to rid itself of the barbarity.
It's still present in Africa & Muslim countries. I've seen it in my professional travels.
I think we should offer reparations to all ancestors of slavery in this country - 40 Acres and A Mule - just that the 40 Acres are in Africa and includes a loss of citizenship and permanent ban on returning to the USA. I would gladly donate to the cause.
Make it mandatory for all ancestors of slaves who’s rap sheet is longer than their arm!!!
I think years of Affirmative Action, grade inflation, preferences in hiring and placement in Universities; should be enough pay back for these people.
The BLM list of "white" stuff that blacks should ignore, has included on that list the 2 parent nuclear (sp?) family. The destruction of the family unit in black communities is the reason WHY they are so behind in every category. That list, if you look at the whole list, is actually a list to prevent young black people from being successful in life.
I have visited plantations in the South where there was de facto slavery into the 1970’s. Sharecroppers whose production went to the owners in exchange for food and shelter. They lived in the same quarters as their past generations, and really had no betterment in their families for 150 years.
We had a fight break out between between some of the black and white students at a football game. The game was paused, the police settled everybody down and we restarted play. By the end of the year, most everybody got along.
Well-meaning people can implement policies that unintentionally create problems. My personal view is that there is one race - human - and we are all in it. I enjoy learning about people from other backgrounds. America used to be called the melting pot where people tried to be good neighbors and get along. Some find this easier than others. Success at this is worth the effort.
Bear in mind, that the cultural Marxists want to keep dividing people. This has created a tremendous amount of strife. I find it much better to focus on being good neighbors. Our neighborhood here in Western NY is integrated. People get along.
You mean the 70’s where LBJ ushered in the Great Society and gave them all welfare? That’s reparations which still get paid out monthly to date.
Back in the 70’s when you were on your grand tour of the South surely you saw the thousands of white share croppers who lived hand to mouth just like the black share croppers. its not a great career choice. Choice being the key word here not slavery. That doesn’t mean you need reparations.
