The exception was here in the First District, Coastal Georgia. Our convention was cancelled when the venue we contracted for, the Pine Forest Country Club of Jessup, GA, reneged.
My personal belief is that the cancellation was at the behest of the current First District Chairman, Carl Smith, of Chatham County(Savannah). The County conventions were held last month. When it became obvious that the 'official' slate of county officers and county delegates to the District & State Conventions were going to lose to nominations from the floor, Carl Smith refused to entertain nominations from the floor. When the new members were having none of that, he hastily adjourned the convention without electing officers or delegates to the conventions.
There is no provision in the state GOP bylaws for electing delegates to the conventions other than at the county conventions as the number of delegates is determined by the number of votes for the Republican candidate in the most recent Presidential election.
The Chairmen of the other counties made it clear that NO delegates from Chatham County were going to be seated at the District convention nor would any resolutions from Chatham County be considered.
This is a REALLY big deal since Chatham county has about 40% of the delegates to the district convention. This meant that Chatham county was going to be frozen out of the District leadership for at least two years.
I am a county committeeman and a delegate to the First District convention. I was seriously annoyed when I learned we wouldn't have the convention today.
I would also have been a delegate to the state convention but gave up my seat to our county Chairwoman when the nominations committee accidentally left her name off the list. If I hadn't she might have engineered a way to make me the Chairman next time and I couldn't have that happening. ;-)
