Tawny Kitaen, Ex-Wife of David Coverdale and Star of Whitesnake’s Iconic “Here I Go Again” Video, Dead at 59

Tawny Kitaen, the actress and model best known for starring in Whitesnake’s iconic music video for “Here I Go Again,” has died. She was 59-years-old.

Variety reports that Kitaen died at her home in Newport Beach, CA yesterday, Friday, May 7. No cause of death has been revealed.

Kitaen’s music video debut came in RATT’s 198x clip, “Back for More.” She went on to appear not only in Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again” video, but several of the band’s other clips as well, including “Still of the Night,” “Is This Love” and “The Deeper the Love.” She was also married to Whitesnake singer David Coverdale from 1989 to 1991.

As an actress, Kitaen played Tom Hanks’ girlfriend in the 1984 comedy Bachelor Party and appeared in the Seinfeld episode “The Nose Job.”

Kitaen also appeared on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2009.

Tawny Kitaen was the same age as one of this guy’s older sibling’s neighborhood friend from HS years who died this year. The beginning of HS friend’s unexpected and rapid downward spiral into death coincided in time with the dreaded “second injection”.

I’m finding it interesting that many of these post 1960s actors, actresses, and music/song people, I have never heard of.

I used to go to a lot of afterparties and backstage events, met a lot of folks in music before they were celebrities. I met Jules (as she introduced herself) in early 1980 or '81 at an after party. She stuck her tongue in my ear during the introduction and I narrowly escaped a beat-down from her escort (it didn't go unnoticed I had copped a feel in the heat of the moment...).

'77 through '81 kind of all run together in a jumble in my teen-age memories. As a teen I rarely paid attention to the calendar, just the seasons and some events. Similarly I met a lot of interesting and engaging people, sometimes discovering decades later they had gone on to do some exciting things. All those opportunities missed due to the indifference of callow youth, bummer...

Nobody should ever put up with being told what is going on in their own mind or suffer any other torment chatacteristic of a verbally abusive relationship. Nevertheless, these types of relationships between abuser and victim can last decades with the abuse getting worse and worse, but with it never dawning on the victim that that anything is particularly amiss, sometimes simply because they never had any effective basis for comparison. To use the famous analogy, the person can end up being graduslly boiled like the famous frog over nearly half its lifetime and never escape or seek help and the net effect can be qite disastrous.
