Why would you open hundreds of Tabs at the same time?
I keep all my Edge links (well over 100) perfectly organized behind the Favorites icon - zero Tab chaos on my screen.
Edge does have side stacked vertical rows of regular sized tabs on the left side of the screen. They recede out of sight when you pull the cursor away.
The first thing I notice in Comment #20 is that there is no horizontal Open Windows bar at the top of the page - is that hidden? Is that even being used?
#20 says Edge cannot close a window by clicking the X?
I can click the X directly in the Windows bar, or in the specific Window, or in the mini-image that displays from the Edge icon at the bottom of the screen - closes every time.
Cannot toggle? I can toggle - but it is faster to just click the window you want.
Spell check has many options - just start or stop them with your preferences in Settings.
Edge Dictionary? I like a full service dictionary, and I keep one open
Cannot right click Copy Link in tabs?
Put the cursor in the address bar - works fine.
Find/Search icon will not stay open across tabs?
Just minimize Search page, open the new Window, maximize Search page, you are back in business with all your info saved.
I will close were I started - with the Edge Copy Image command not working.
When that first came out in Edge, it allowed you to copy and post copyrighted photos and graphics in Free Republic.
I think it is possible that Microsoft disabled it on purpose.
But, I did find an Edge work around for non-copyright images, so it is not a big issue.
Why: Because it is like a factory with different departments and tools handing on the wall. When you do a lot of research and posting and it is far faster and then needing to to go Favorites/bookmarks, of which I already have hundreds. I use Vivaldi as my default for which respond to its forum and also read and answer questions on Quora as well as comment on the local liberal paper (which autocratically censored me once, with no explanation). But I actually use Firefox legacy for FR and research relative to topics there as well for other topics such as for Quora, since with the Colorful Tabs extension (not the one for Quantum) I can not only use multiple tab rows but about 25 tabs across and see what they are far easier (and of course I dray tabs together, and can color them the the same way).
Another profile of Firefox is used for shopping research, with one row for bicycle parts on Ebay I often buy or research (patches by the dozens, brake pads, cables and housing, noodles, barrel adjusters etc.) I can easily get to rather than drilling down thru bookmarks. Another row is for other vendors.
Another profile of Firefox Quantum portable is for Christian and other good movies, and banking.
Then Waterfox classic is used mainly to load html pages posts that I made in which I can copy and paste from to save typing for my stiff arthritic fingers which makes typos about every fourth word (and Firefox has the best checker).
"zero Tab chaos on my screen."
I have no real chaos and am better organized my way. .
I will get back to your other ?'s later as I need to attend to some work outside.
" I keep all my Edge links (well over 100) perfectly organized behind the Favorites icon - zero Tab chaos on my screen. Edge does have side stacked vertical rows of regular sized tabs on the left side of the screen. They recede out of sight when you pull the cursor away."
That is simply not a quick when you are dealing with many many pages on one site among dozens that you want to be quickly accessible in front of you, not a few stored in some draw. Note: I am not using a laptop much less a mobile device, but a desktop with a 23" monitor and I can place 30 identifiable tabs on just one row, all colored according to site and with the width being adjustable according to how much of the title you want to see.
" The first thing I notice in Comment #20 is that there is no horizontal Open Windows bar at the top of the page - is that hidden? Is that even being used?"
There is a icon you can hit for a drop-down list:
" #20 says Edge cannot close a window by clicking the X?"
No, it says "You cannot close a non-active tab by just placing your cursor on it the top right to get a X to click on (so unless you activate it,"
" I can click the X directly in the Windows bar, or in the specific Window, or in the mini-image that displays from the Edge icon at the bottom of the screen - closes every time."
That is working in Edge, but not in Vivaldi for me. I need to activate it a non-active tab, or R. click on it and hit close tab.
You cannot toggle btwn the most recently accessed tabs using the Ctrl+Tab switch (and its Alt+Tab alternative messes up switching btwn applications).
"Cannot toggle? I can toggle - but it is faster to just click the window you want."
No: if you use the standard ctrl+tab switch then Edge will toggle btwn the current active tab and every other tab sequentially - which could be many, rather than (as seems common sense) btwn the most recently accessed tab, just as in Windows the standard alt and tab toggles btwn the current active window and most recently accessed one. With FF and Vivaldi you can do that.
Edge has a very poor spell checker and the dictionary is hard to find in the drive even if you could edit it (as you can with that of Firefox).
" Spell check has many options - just start or stop them with your preferences in Settings. Edge Dictionary? I like a full service dictionary, and I keep one open"
What I mean is that it does a very poor job of estimating what word was meant by a typo, and you cannot edit the dict. file as with FF. However, i see now that the quite good Grammar and Spell Checker — LanguageTool is available for Edge and which i use for Vivaldi.
" Cannot right click Copy Link in tabs? Put the cursor in the address bar - works fine."
That is a poor substitute for that requires activating the tab in order to have it in the address bar, taking twice the time which can add up if you do research and have a number of tabs open. Why is this not an option?
" Find/Search icon will not stay open across tabs? Just minimize Search page, open the new Window, maximize Search page, you are back in business with all your info saved."
That simply will not do. If I am searching something like "infection fatality rate" and have many tabs open from searching the subject, then I should be able to go to any tab and hit F3 and see the word or phrase, without opening a new Window and maximizing Search page... Why is this not an option?
" When that first came out in Edge, it allowed you to copy and post copyrighted photos and graphics in Free Republic. I think it is possible that Microsoft disabled it on purpose. But, I did find an Edge work around for non-copyright images, so it is not a big issue."
I can just right and choose copy image link and paste it, and delete the end after .png, then wrap it in its proper tags
