Authorities are investigating a Florida principal who was seen on camera paddling a student for damaging a computer. WINK reports the child’s mother recorded the video of Central Elementary School Principal Melissa Carter. It reportedly happened April 13. WINK reports the school called the 6-year-old girl’s mother saying she’d damaged a computer and that there would be a $50 fee.
The mother went to the school to pay the fee and was taken to the principal’s office. Her daughter, the principal and a school clerk were in the room. The mother said she began to get nervous, so she hit record on her phone.
She told WINK the principal “started to scream.” She is then seen paddling the little girl with a wooden paddle three times.
After the first hit, the child turned around crying with her hand on her bottom, and the principal said, “no, put your hands down” before swinging twice more.
“The hatred with which she hit my daughter, I mean it was a hatred that, really I’ve never hit my daughter like she hit her,” the mother told WINK. “I had never hit her.”

These days your average six year old knows far more about technology than does your average sixty year old.
How do you know the mom is a snowflake? Don’t blame the mom. Her video will save many children in that school district.
The mom was concerned about being undocumented.
Why, then, if the mother was in the same room, didn’t she physically try to stop the paddling?
“Translation: I recorded it and didn’t intervene because I was hoping to have a lawsuit against the school,”
You must be from the south. All 19 states that allow it are in the south. So all the northerners moving south to avoid taxes and buy cheap homes beware. Move south to retire. No kids.
“mom was concerned about being undocumented”
So she’s here illegally? Maybe go back to where ya came from, and take your kid with you.
She’s already here. Do you think therefore its ok for her 6 year old daughter to receive corporal punishment in a county and school where its illegal? For all we know the kid could be a U.S. citizen. The child is a victim. You are not a victim based on your legal status.
Naw. Not 50. Closer to 60
You know. The good old days
true enough. But I am sorry she and her offspring are here.
Watch, listen and things get clearer.
The ‘board’ of education.
“These days your average six year old knows far more about technology than does your average sixty year old.”
Hey, I resemble that...and you’re correct.
Watch the video before judging. The Mom was afraid that it would be her word against theirs. She is obviously illegal. The principal should lose her job & be black balled. Slovenly, vicious and stupid is a bad combination. The Mom did the right thing to record. Criminal charges are being considered and would be appropriate since other children are at risk under this ignorant bully’s authority.
The school’s written policy is no corporal punishment no humiliation. Doing this to a 6 year old in school for being careless with a computer is ridiculous. What parent gives a 6 year old a computer without a protective case? Any rational person does not hand 6 year olds expensive fragile equipment or beat them if they have an accident and drop something. The child had bruising documented.
The mother would rather record it than get her daughter out of there. Dimwit.
No doubt, but how literate are they?
They should be able to read and write and calculate before they are allowed to use computers for classroom instruction.
IOW, they need to be able to think instead of letting the computer do it for them.
When we homeschooled, I did not let my kids use calculators until they hit algebra where it became a time saver. But by that point, they knew how and why math worked and could do all the four basic functions in their heads and get the right answer.
Once I knew they had mastery of math and could tell if the answer they got on the calculator was right and made sense, then they could use them.
After watching the video, I don’t have an issue with the punishment. Likely, the child will never do what she did, again!
Whoops. /s
“I had never hit her.”
That’s why somebody else had to.
Good point, but we all know how that ends these days for the punisher.
I was sent to parochial school as a youngster; some of us know the pain of a ruler across the hands (I was 6). I believe that I’m better for it. And yes, I did experience the belt of my father on more than one occasion.
Again, I believe that I’m better for it.
I had parents that used a belt not to punish but because it was tuesday. I go to school and they had a gym teacher that had a paddle. I stopped going to gym and eventually school.
People who beat children are twisted.
