They have already done away with many of their rest areas. An old joke was a rest area on a toll road was behind a local bush.

NY did this on the Thruway. When they built it the pols promised residents it would be free in 25 years. Don’t ever trust a politician.

Bridge tolls and road tolls never expire/die off or are eliminated.

As a northern-stater who recently spent an entire month in FL, I must say I was more than pleased to have my plate read and a toll bill mailed to me, as opposed to the obnoxious inconvenience of pulling into a toll booth every few miles and scrambling for some loose cash.
That system should’ve been implemented years ago.

Hate turnpikes. I am fine with using them to pay to build a road and then end when it’s paid for, but to charge a fee forever is crap.
These tollroads are spreading too, just like HOAs.

A government builds a road, and you have to pay to use it.
Government builds a stadium, and lets the billionaire use it for free.

One road I use with some regularity in Oklahoma has been collecting tolls for over 50 years. That’s ridiculous.

as opposed to the obnoxious inconvenience of pulling into a toll booth every few miles and scrambling for some loose cash. The Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City used to have some unmanned toll booths and the toll was $1.15 or some uneven number. You learned to have pre-sorted piles of coins to avoid being stranded at the red light.

PA Turnpike system is cashless now as well.
I assume the toll workers are learning to code.

I believe:
(1) Connecticut did away with toll roads
(2) the tolls have come off I-95 from Richmond to Petersburg
(3) Maryland has made most of I-95 east of Baltimore toll-free (except for the Susquehanna bridge and added toll lanes near Baltimore)
But many toll roads have been added in and around metropolitan areas. Fleecing the people that need to work is profitable.

One in Atlanta did a couple of years back.

Is there a transponder you can buy/rent that somehow works on all toll roads regardless of what state they are in? It would be great if there is... then one wouldn’t need to think about if they were renting cars in a whole bunch of states. I believe that’s the way it works in Florida... rent a car at Orlando airport and it works on all toll roads in the state but I don’t think it works in other states.
To: Tolerance Sucks Rocks
The flaw with this method of tolling is that it’s tracking without a warrant. If I have a “pay-as-you-go” transponder (which isn’t allowed), who is the State to track my movements?
