This happened when I was in high school. Still remember my mom’s shocked expression, we thought it was hysterical. David Niven had a great quip which brought down the house. Niven was a class act and a damn good actor. I miss the movie stars of yesteryear.
I’m lucky enough to have been a movie-mad kid when actual stars like Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Audrey Hepburn were presenters, Bob Hope and Johnny Carson were hosts, and nominees were actors like John Wayne, Sophia Loren, Jack Lemmon, Paul Newman and Julie Andrews. My family never missed the Oscars in those days.
