Well, I started reading Griff Hosker’s Dragon Heart series, and then I started watching The Last Kingdom, so I’m consuming two Saxon “sturries” about the 9th century at the same time. I may not be learning much History but at least I have a better idea of who all the AEthels and AEds were and how Northumbria, Mercia, Wales, and Wessex fit together.
The Last Kingdom is the televised version of the Saxon Series by Cornwall. I watched a few episodes. I couldn’t warm up to the guy they cast as Uhtred or Father Beorca, but they nailed Alfred. The whole Saxon series is on Audible...I’m addicted to listening to books in my car, the guy who reads them is great.
