Just like most 'blue' states, most of the area is red. Like you say, it's the blue areas that have a bigger population.
That being said, the closer I got to Chicago, I started seeing a few (a VERY few) signs in front yards saying 'Proud Union Family'.
Saw one guy with about 20 different signs lining his front walk and driveway. The most prominent sign (besides the Trump sign) was one that read 'Pritzker sucks'. He was not shy about letting the world know what he thought. LOL
