For the first time since March of 2020, the trackers are showing “AF1” for Air Force One. I’ve been told by aircraft spotters this is because EU air traffic control regulations require the full callsign (whereas in the USA they can withhold the callsign if needed). Not sure if that is the case, but here it is on the tracker so you guys can see for yourself: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=adfdf8

Interesting he notes it’s been since March 2020 that the AF1 designation hasn’t been used, since not using it supposedly ‘meant’ something.

What does this mean? Thanks!

I’m not sure I’m the world’s best at explaining it, since I don’t have a deep knowledge of the subject, but when viewing the flight websites where air traffic can be tracked in real time, each craft you see has a letter and number designation. This allows the air traffic controller (and us!) to tell the type of plane and who the owner of said plane is.

For example, I just moved the map at the link in my post to the Nashville area and clicked on one of the planes in the area. It says ‘DAL2384’ which is Delta Air Lines flight 2384, and is a Boeing 737. Air Force One would normally have ‘AF1’ in place of the ‘DAL2384’ so anyone looking at it would know it’s Air Force One.

Based on what the guy posted (and I reposted) the AF1 designation has not shown on the tracking radar since March 2020. Since 1/20/21, various commentators have taken that to mean that Biden really hasn’t been on AF1 OR that the plane isn’t being recognized by the military as AF1 because it’s not being designated AF1 on the tracking radar.

If it’s accurate that it’s been the case AF1 hasn’t been used since March 2020 within the US, then the same assumptions about ‘is it REALLY AF1?’ should apply to when Trump was on the plane since March 2020. Personally, I don’t think it should have EVER used the AF1 designation on a public radar tracking site.

If something I wrote doesn’t make sense, just let me know. I had to write in parts because work interrupted. LOL
