The national Christmas tree has been growing on the DC mall for about a century. Since 1923, it has been decorated each year at Christmas time. There has a wonderful ceremony when it is lit for the first time each year. Its removal during the Biden administration is fitting.

I wonder if it was chopped down the same day as Biden issued a proclamation for national prayer day in which he did not use the word God a single time. Biden’s proclamation was very different from those of President Trump. If Biden replaces the national Christmas tree, I wonder he will have a lighting ceremony and never say the name of Jesus.

NEWS RELEASE
New National Christmas Tree to be planted in President’s Park this fall

Date: May 1, 2021

The National Park Service (NPS) removed the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse in President’s Park this morning and will plant a new tree this fall prior to the 99th National Christmas Tree Lighting.

The former tree was a 30-foot Colorado blue spruce from Palmyra, Pa. planted in 2019. The tree needed to be removed after developing needle cast, a fungal disease that affects spruce trees and causes their needles to turn brown and fall off.

Since 1973, the National Christmas Tree has been a living tree, cared for by NPS horticulturists. The National Christmas Tree can be viewed year-round on the Ellipse in President’s Park — one of America’s 423 national parks.
