I could never understand people going anywhere in the wilderness without being armed with at least a .357mag and a Beowulf .50cal on an AR platform. I always do.

A friend hunts elk and mule deer in western Wyoming and Montana
Besides his rifle, he carries a 10mm pistol for bears. I have never shot a bear, so I don’t even know if that would be effective.

Cuz it inhibit your casting motion!
I carry .357 w 200gr. hardcast rounds.
But that doesn't matter if you don't see the bear soon enough.
They don't fight fair and often blind side you. Not to mention the sound of the river masking their approach.
