my father was in the Pacific theatre with the Navy....I too wished we had talked more about his experiences but back then, men did not talk about the war...
They will always be special to me. I never met one of the Raiders, but I did meet a Flying Tiger, a ranger who climbed Pointe de Hoc on D-day, and a Marine who landed with the first waves on Tarawa. That man welcomed my younger son to the Corps.

my father was a machinist mate in one of the Yorktown’s engine rooms during the Battle of Midway. He had been aboard the ship since mid 1940. Spent the rest of the war on USS West Virginia BB-48.
