Jack London spent part of his youth in Oakland. There is a beautiful area on the water in Oakland named Jack London Square- shops, restaurants
There is a movement to rename it Barbara Lee Square - the communist congressman from the area

My mother read that to me as a bedtime story once. We agreed it was a very good story, and that bedtime was a very bad time to read it. 45 years later it’s still a vivid and favorite memory.
