Horror stories like that one are why I changed my flight from Texas from landing in Toronto, where I might endure what this lady endured, to landing in Buffalo, New York, and crossing by land in a taxi. I’ve told everyone I know about how easy it was and told each of them to tell everyone they know.

The driver who brought me across the border told one of my referrals today that he’s now getting 50 calls a day for similar arrangements. Changing my plans to avoid the $2000 Covid Hotel Hell and the mistreatment at the airport was worth the extra $250 expense. In my mind, I actually saved $1750. And the lady is correct - it’s 100% punitive for daring to defy the almighty Trudeau and his lockdown rules.

I’m extremely alarmed at the presence of Chinese officers at the Vancouver airport. There’s a very high Chinese population in Vancouver, but that shouldn’t explain a totally Chinese Customs and Immigration staff.

Hi LL-

so the account of the woman and the Chinese guards at the airport sounds like it is accurate?

This is scary!

Until I read this lady’s account, I‘d only seen one account of anyone’s airport experience but I’d read a lot about the covid hotel hell experiences. In that one account, an anti-mask, anti-lockdown activist had filmed himself refusing to wear a mask in the airport and refusing to go to hotel hell. He shouted into the camera that they were violating our Bill of Rights and he walked out and it appeared that they left him alone. I don’t know what happened once he got home ($3000 fine for violating the Quarantine Act?). He’s well-known. I am not.

So I contacted my lawyer and asked for a referral to a criminal attorney because I was planning to refuse to go to covid hotel hell and expected to be arrested. The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms here in Canada suggested we have a criminal attorney on retainer for when we refused in case we were arrested. Not all people were being arrested for refusing in Toronto, but there was no knowing in advance who would be or wouldn’t be.

Then I learned from a friend that hotel quarantine wasn’t a requirement when entering by land, so I abandoned my plan to be civilly disobedient and simply changed my travel arrangements. If I had returned to Toronto by air, I may have seen all Chinese faces too if Trudeau has turned airport arrival functions over to them. I saw no evidence of Chinese control of the airport when I departed from Toronto.
