Didn’t always refer to Asians.
In WWII reporter Ernie Pyle heard U.S. soldiers headed to Italy referring to Italian soldiers as ‘gooks’. Pyle hadn’t heard the word before and asked where it came from. The soldiers didn’t know, it was just a slang term they had picked up.
It didn’t start out as any kind of racist slur against Asians, just slang that referred to the enemy.
It’s not geeks... but if you replace the E’s with O’s, you’ve got it.
At that point you will understand the terrible burden of being a Norwegian G***k!!!
