Obesity increases risk of Covid-19 death by 48%, study finds

Comprehensive study suggests vaccine may not work as well for overweight people

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/aug/26/obesity-increases-risk-of-covid-19-death-by-48-study-finds

Excerpt:

The US and UK have some of the highest obesity rates in the world. US government data shows that more than 40% of Americans are obese. The figure in England is more than 27% of adults.

The new study from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill into the effects of Covid-19 on people with obesity, defined as a BMI over 30, finds they are at greater risk from the virus in every way. Their risk of ending up in hospital with Covid-19 increases by 113%, of needing intensive care by 74%, and of dying of the virus by 48%.

The study was led by Prof Barry Popkin, of the department of nutrition at the UNC’s Gillings Global School of Public Health, who said he was shocked by the findings. The risk of dying of Covid-19 for people with obesity was significantly higher than anyone had thought.

Vaccine Rant!
My daughter who lives in Dallas and my son who lives in Chicago area are so put out with me and my husband for refusing the 2nd vaccine. We have both had the 1st Pfizer followed by a moderate case of the Covid-19 a week later. Daughter called yesterday and told me how embarrassed she was and how stupid we were for not getting the second shot. I reminded her it wasn’t FDA approved and when it was we would probably get it. It seems she didn’t realize it wasn’t FDA approved thinking it was because it was EUA approved.

We have a 6 mo old grandson we have been unable to see but were looking forward to doing so in May now that we have antibodies. Our son called and told us we had to have the 2nd vaccine if we want to come up there. We have refused that since we have 1 vaccine that provide 75% - 80% protection and virus antibodies. Hubby is so mad and upset I have remained calm only because he is mad enough for both of us. Daughter has been pushing us to move to Dallas area as our area has been deteriorating for a while now. Hubby says he’s not taking an ass chewing every time they disagree with us.

I have been scouring the internet for articles about 1 vaccine and Covid antibodies. I have found some things and more seem to be popping up lately. This is my latest find if anyone is interested. I doubt it will change my situation but just wanted others to know.

“The good news is that information appears to indicate protection for some time.
Researchers say they are seeing that those who have had COVID-19 and recovered appear to have long-term immunity that lasts for at least six to eight months, and could last years.
If you get sick with COVID-19, your immune system will make antibodies within a few weeks after you were infected, according to Christina Aungst, a community pharmacist writing for the GoodRX website.
Aungst pointed out that once you have developed natural immunity, your body will know how to fight the infection if you are exposed again, and it’s unlikely you will catch COVID-19 again.
Aungst also pointed to a recent study that found that natural immunity is still present in people eight months after they were infected.
Some researchers believe natural immunity to COVID-19 might last for several years, after another recent study showed that people who have recovered from COVID-19 have powerful and protective killer immune cells even when antibodies are not found in blood samples.”
