LL, don’t worry, I didn’t take offense at what you said; I think it’s a good idea.
Those businesses are obligated to work/help with disabled folks, otherwise they run afoul of the ADA etc.
So, someone telling then that they read lips is putting them on the spot, especially in states whose governors have lifted the statewide mask mandates and left it up to the individual businesses.
There are shops in town who don’t have ‘mask required’ signs in the windows anymore.
