Brilliant and its getting worse every year as our history is erased kids no longer write in cursive and on and on it goes. In Florida we have funding for each student.
Instead of giving it to the parents to spend at the school of their choice its automatically given to the local school district which may or may not be worth a sh_t.
All that needs to be changed.
Imagine if you will, a world in which what you mention were true. Taxpayer money, rather than given to schools based on student attendance, was given to parents in the name of each student. Let's call them 'vouchers', for lack of a better word.
The parents would then look around at the selection of schools and choose the one they thought best. In this way, good performing schools would prosper and poor performing schools would eventually improve or perish.
Over a period of time, the worst performing schools left would be better than the schools we have now. And the top performing schools? Marone. In this way, all boats would rise.
Think of it as a sort of free market education market, for as we all know, competition and self interest (Ayn Rand) drive success and innovation.
Nah. What would the teacher's unions say?
Never mind. Let's just keep doing what we're doing.
What could go wrong?

I thought DeSantis was working on some education changes; cannot say that I pay much attention, being elderly. I will say that our local Orange County schools appear embarrassing.
The U.S. pays more per student than any country in the world yet we rank last in education results for advanced economies.
