From what I have seen of the show, it is a real life documentary of the character “Adam” set in the 1980s. The theme of the first 2/3rds of the show is a family quarreling internally and externally but then the final moments are somewhat sappy in that family love unites and shines. It isn’t anything appalling by today’s standards but then again the 1980s was an awesome time to be alive.

I know a 50 y/o woman who LOVES that show.
It just never lit me up.
To each his own entertainment.
Of course, this Lady likes Family Feud too, the newer, raunchy version.

His character on The Goldbergs was a good one. But he seemed to really slow down on this season's episodes--didn't have him doing much other than sitting there. Obviously they are acting, but the guy who plays Adam, and George Segal really truly have a deep affection for each other, just like the characters do. Or else they really are damn good actors. But when they express affection for each other like grandson/grandfather, it seems very genuine.

And I couldn't believe he was 87. I had him in the high 70s.
