I completely agree about Ivermectin. For me, HCQ might work best.

You may be right about the vaccines. You may be wrong about the vaccines. Rhetorical questions: How many times are you going to take the vaccine? Every year? More often? What will they tell you in 3 months?

I’d be very careful about what you read.

For us, we’ll make our own decisions and pass.

Agreed, Merck did release that statement, which is common knowledge regarding past infection and immunity. But, the info I received gave the impression this was not the case, and that people should just get the shots anyway. Crazy lies and Orwellian Double Speak.

A friend got his second Moderna shot (at a VA facility), and they told him there might be a booster (third shot) in the Fall (the normal annual vaccination season, prior to cold and flu season).

No doubt The companies have an interest in selling more of their products.

Some of the hype over variants, may be driven by marketing boosters, or “re-formulated” shots, after most of the market has already been fully vaccinated.

So far, I think there have only been a few thousand confirmed cases of the UK variant in the USA, and far fewer of the South African or Brazilian.

Walter Reed Army Medical Center is reportedly working on a general purpose coronavirus vaccine, which uses multiple identifying features (as opposed to a single spike protein), to cover the whole family of coronavirus ens, much less just variants of this one. Hopefully something like that will work out.

But like you, I expect that there will be some push for additional shots later. It should be a much tougher sell on an objective basis, but they can probably sell the FedGov a few shiploads, by greasing the right palms.

Just had my first Moderna shot. Arm was sore / stiff - a bit worse than what I get after a flu shot, which the NP who gave it to me said to expect.

The first shot confers more than half of the protection from the two-shot vaccines.

a virus hardly anyone dies from.

A couple of days or even weeks in the ICU is not a pleasant experience - most of those people didn't die either. I'm sure they would have preferred not to have gone through the experience. Even those who felt like death being bedridden at home for a couple of weeks would have preferred to have not gone through it even though they survived. Even those who completely lost their sense of taste and smell for weeks or even months probably would have preferred to have not gone through with it. The many millions of people who never got it would probably prefer to still have their loved ones with them who are no longer here because of it. Those that survived but may have permanent disabilities because of it probably would prefer to not to have live that like even though they "survived."

Think before you speak.

Don’t give a crap what Anthony Fauci says. He doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking abut. No one should have taken him seriously anymore after the Tinder comments and his seemingly constant flip flopping on the mask issue.

It doesn’t matter what you think about Fauci, you got the shots anyway which is what he wants. I hope you didn’t believe the Chinese videos of people planked face down in the street. This has been a year long psyop, with mass vaccination as the goal (on the Pharma side).

Actually it is what Trump wanted and Fauci kept throwing cold water on the idea it would be possible.

Try to make arguments from a position of reality.

Trump touted HCQ, which Fauci acknowledged back in 2005 as the cure for SARS-Cov1, but that doesn’t matter. You chose the experimental gene therapy because Trump wanted it? I guess the market works since people were clamoring for anything to take away their fear, and accepted whatever Big Pharma put out.

I didn’t say that at all. You were the one that brought up taking or not taking things because someone “wanted it.”

I took it to do my part in ending the pandemic and also not wanting to through the pain and misery so many people I personally know have gone through. I did not take it because any certain person “wants” me to do so. I could just as well argue you aren’t taking it because you are fan of Louis Farrakhan with your absurd remark we are taking it because of Fauci.

I also know what it is and what it is not - your nonsensical “gene therapy” comment tells me all I need to know about your knowledge base.

Early treatment within a small window of time...how many actually are able to pinpoint what stage they are in when the first seek treatment?

Did your part to end the pandemic? Haha, okay. It’s amazing you actually believe that. Even Merck said in their press release that “This decision follows Merck’s review of findings from Phase 1 clinical studies for the vaccines...the immune responses were inferior to those seen following natural infection and those reported for other SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 vaccines." But, you obviously don’t need my permission to take what you know what is and isn’t, especially for a virus that is over 99% survivable.

I’m a fan of Louis Farrakhan? Ooookay.

And regarding gene therapy, do these vaccines cause the body to develop antibodies due to exposure to dead or weakened virus as do traditional vaccines (and mimicking natural exposure)? No they do not, they deliver genetic code which causes your body to generate them without exposure to the virus. Sounds like a therapeutic based in the genetic realm to me. And they are not FDA approved, they are still experimental and being administered under Emergency Use Authorization.

In addition to Merck, the French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi also pulled the plug on their vaccine candidate, when early results indicated that it was a weak performer. There is always that risk in drug development.

Operation Warp Speed sought to reduce this risk of failure, by diversifying across several different technical approaches, and funding two different ( competing) major companies attempt to rapidly develop each.

The OWS approach succeeded in producing multiple safe and effective vaccines (it looks like Novavax and AstraZeneca/Oxford will also succeed, with authorization in the USA expected in May).

The two using the mRNA approach were first to market, largely because of inherent speed in that approach. The Moderna vaccine was literally developed over a weekend - the rest was testing.

The mRNA vaccines do not cause cells to produce antibodies directly - they have the ribosomes produce an identifying spike protein, off of the surface of the COVID-19 virus. The immune system learns to recognize that, as it would off of a killed, weakened or neutered virus, but there is no possibility of that fragmentary spike protein replicating, as a virus might, if some escaped the process meant to kill, weaken or sterilize them.

The ribosomes only produce the spike proteins in response to the mRNA, which has a half life about ten hours. The spike proteins themselves don’t replicate, and wash out like any other protein fragments. While they are circulating, the immune system learns to recognize/reject them, as it would during the course of a temporary infection.

By having just the identifying features of interest produced, the available immune response is focused only on features unique to COVID, rather than a mix of all features on the surface. By having the ribosomes produce fresh and perfect copies of the spike proteins (not degraded by storage and handling), a greater payload of the exact immunity-stimulating agent is achieved, per unit of vaccine (effectiveness), with a minimum of extraneous material (such as complete virus), which could produce unwanted side effects (safety).

I seriously doubt anywhere near 77,000 people died from covid in January. Are you aware the seasonal flu and pneumonia have disappeared?

There are not 500-1000 people dying everyday from covid.

“There are not 500-1000 people dying everyday from covid.”

Perhaps not, but that is what is officially reported by the CDC.
