So locusts = cicadas? I always wondered, what with the “17 years” part.
I remember the last emergence of the cicadas. Not so much here in South Florida, but I visited in the Midwest during the height of it, and the noise from those suckers was quite unforgettably astounding in some neighborhoods. It was capable of drowning out everything else nearby!

we had stopped in a neighborhood in Des Moynes,Iowa(lost, of course) and the sound was so loud it almost drowned out inside the car conversation.....amazing....
