Cajuns for the most part do not consider "coonass" a negative term. And since I am "culturally" a coonass (having grown up amongst'em and married one), it isn't even "cultural appropriation".

I knew that, but I did not know if all our Freepers did.

I had a friend some years ago who worked as a purchasing manager with an oil rig outfit in the Gulf. He was not a Cajun but had worked with many on the rigs over the years, and it was from him I learned the term coonass. I know there are many coonasses who with their offshore oil experience have worked all over the world.
