Whether it's Pi Day, Thanksgiving, or just a Monday, I love finding any excuse to enjoy a big slice of pie. There's just something about digging into that buttery, flaky piecrust with a warm (or chilled) filling. I have yet to meet a pie flavor I don't like, but if given the option, I'll likely go with whatever fruit pie is available. It's even more enjoyable to me if it's some sort of berry pie—especially now that spring is here! Gurney's Seed & Nursery Co. recently revealed the most popular fruit pies by state, and I had to see where my state landed. Spoiler alert: My current state (Iowa) and home state (Missouri) both went to strawberry pie, which I believe is an excellent choice. While there aren't many major head-turners (Thanksgiving cranberry pie sparked confusion last year), the results might surprise you. See which fruit pie your state landed on and whether you agree.

Grape pie is a real thing. I haven’t tried it, but roadside stands sell them in late summer along I-44 near St James, MO.
There are a lot of vineyards and wineries in that area. I think the pies are made with Concord grapes.
What do they do with the seeds?
Effa grape pie!, mashem up! we can have Lambrusco before we pick out all these gol dang seeds!
Artichoke pie sounds like it would be a good savory brunch dish.
Best pie I ever had in my life was the apricot pie at a small restaurant chain in Oregon. My next favorite is the lemon meringue pie I make myself with fresh Florida lemons —it is not too sweet and meringue is a mile high. 3rd is Strawberry Rhubarb pie with fresh Florida strawberries that start coming in around February.

Cranberry pie in Michigan. No way. This is the first time I heard of cranberry pie and I’ve lived in Michigan for 68 years.
No, if you’re in Michigan you know we have excellent cherry orchards in and around Traverse city. Michigan is #1 in the nation for tart cherry production and #4 in sweet cherries.
Michigan is #3 in the nation in providing blueberries.
Michigan leads the nation in using apples in making pies.
So, my favorite pies are:
1. Cherry
2. Blueberry
3. Apple
Period.
