I used Gunbroker for a while, but as a buyer you have to sort through a lot of “wish list” sellers demanding unrealistic prices. With patience, though, I’d find a good deal from time to time.

But there are some bad sellers, and Gunbroker does not do anything to punish them. I bought what was advertised as a perfect rolling block rifle, the pictures looked decent, and the seller made representations about the gun. It was a fair deal at the advertised price.

When I got the gun, it was literally cobbled together from mismatched parts, all in rough shape.

The seller told me “No Returns!” and when I complained to Gunbroker they said “Well, that’s too bad. You can leave bad feedback if you like.”

Really? I can “leave bad feedback”? I was out $600.

One bad deal like that can put you behind, so I just avoid them now.

I’d run into other sketchy sellers there, mostly sellers who wouldn’t honor a deal if I won an auction at decent price.

GunBroker has changed over the years, but I find that it is still useful. If you're looking for something to buy, just pick the right category (or categories), run your search ("Advanced Search" is best), sort the results by price & filter out any auctions that have a reserve, and then ignore anything above your price range. ALWAYS check the seller's feedback (I don't do business with folks that have negative feedback, and I've only had a couple of bad experiences in 20+ years).

If you're looking to sell something, you're a lot more likely to have issues, repeatedly, because the current management apparently does NOT ban deadbeat, non-paying bidders - the site has been over-run with them for the last couple of years, which is a gigantic pain in the butt for sellers...
