Although I grew up in Rochester, New York, we never had a car, so going to concerts of any kind were out of the question. My mother probably wouldn’t have let any of us kids go to begin with. She didn’t even want us riding our bikes in the street. I was the baby, and my two older sisters were into music, so I enjoyed what they liked. Bill Haley & His Comets, The Silhouettes, The Platters, The McGuire Sisters, Pat Boone, Johnny Mathis, The Everly Brothers, Santo & Johnny, etc. My sisters were both working when I started high school, so they were the ones who bought new albums, and 45’s every payday. My second oldest sister bought the first stereo console we owned. I remember it like yesterday...but don’t ask me what I had for supper last night.
I'm not complaining, I loved it there. I rented a small apartment from a German family. Across the alley was a vineyard, and a couple of miles away was a clear view of at 14th century castle.
My daily commute took me through the town of Urzig, along the Mosel River.
