They did certainly seem to enjoy giving corporal punishment.
I saw one pull her arm back behind her head and she came down with that yardstick like a major league pitcher. The boy she was coming after moved his hand before she got him. After the miss, she dragged him into the hallway and he didn’t return to class that day. I don’t know what the boy did to make her so angry, but he wasn’t a really bad one as far as I know - just had too much energy for her. Generally, the nuns seemed ill-suited for dealing with energetic small children and we wondered years later if their assignments to the school were some kind of penance.
