America Has A Boy Crisis
Evie Magazine ^ | 3/6/2021 | Lisa Britton

Parents are more worried about their sons’ futures than their daughters’.

Boys have fallen far behind girls academically. Our school system increasingly favors female traits and doesn’t respect boys’ unique style of learning, which only leads to the expansion of the education gender gap. Research also now shows that boys are more at risk of struggling and falling behind because of remote learning during the COVID pandemic.

Shouldn’t we be adequately preparing ALL children for the future?

Scholarships and programs disproportionately favor girls. Research shows that 92% of sex-specific scholarships are reserved for women, when 58.6% of college students are already female, and females earn the majority of associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, AND doctorate degrees! We’re watching boys fall far behind, and rather than DO something to encourage boys, we tell them they’re “the problem” while tripling down on “girl power!”.

I don’t know any builders, plumbers, contractors, electricians, roofers, masons and the like who are struggling
————

Until legal H2B Mexicans and illegals dominate those positions as well.

How many Americans are there left in these fields once Mexicans start dominating it?

For the remainder it maybe true, but not everyone can do manual labor. I sure can’t.

Do we give all white-collar work to foreigners - as we have been doing - Indians are like locust. They move into one white-collar field after another and eventually totally dominate the field.

Do we relegate our next genea

I was just miffed at the argument that there’s no honor is turning a wrench.

————

Just getting tired of the well-worn argument made by many here on any employment/jobs thread that “if you only were a blue-collar plumber, electrician, welder, etc”, you would be doing well, and they absolutely have disdain for anyone that took the college and white-collar route.

A lot of complaining on this thread. Grab some sack guys. I have 3 sons in public school in Massachusetts (not exactly a conservative bastion)

I’ve seen no evidence of anti-boy behavior. None. Every now and then for Halloween I was bummed that my son’s couldn’t bring their toy weapons to school (when they dressed as Spartan Warriors, or Storm Troopers)etc. But that’s it.

Your boys are YOUR responsibility. Not the school’s, not the church’s.

You want to raise strong, successful, independent men? You can’t go wrong by following Heinlein’s advice:

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

.... second argument is often made and is “ if you can’t compete with foreign labor, you are somehow not qualified.”

BEING A WHITE MALE MAKES YOU DISQUALIFIED.

Sure there always are exceptions.

Doubt that very much. According to studies, Dot Indians have the lowest intermarriage rate of all Asians (1%) by far, while Filipinos (18%) and Japanese (18%) have the highest in the US

We all play a part. I was just miffed at the argument that there’s no honor is turning a wrench.

Of course there is honor and much value in that.

My dad was a master carpenter. He didn’t graduate from HS but could do math in his head like nobody’s business, figure angles, square footage, etc. all in his head and could make everything from furniture to houses and also worked in heavy construction, high rise office and apartment buildings when he was younger.

Not long before he retired he won an AIA craftsmanship award for the work he did on the restoration of a 250+ year old church in Baltimore in the construction and installation of recreated wooden doors and a wooden staircase.

Even though I was a girl, my dad taught me how to do the math, read blue prints and some basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing skills and even car maintenance.

When I was a teenager he and I spent every weekend one winter restoring a 1941 Chris Craft boat he bought for $300 that everyone in the marina told him was a waste of time, but when done it was a beautiful boat that he and I spend many hours cruising and fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, and yes, he also taught me how to navigate a boat and fish.

And I can’t tell you how those skills helped me in life. I have done things like repair a toilet, install a new light fixture with a dimming switch, a ceiling fan, a new thermostat, replace a P-Trap under my kitchen sink, all on my own and at a great savings by doing it myself.

When I bought my first car, he taught me some basic auto mechanic saying “I might not always be around to help you and you might not have a husband who can do this so you better learn some things” like how to change a tire, change the oil and air filter, how to replace headlight bulbs, basics on how an engine works. And when I took my car to a mechanic, there was more than one time that I avoided getting ripped off because I had some of this basic knowledge.

When I moved into my first apartment he gave me a basic tool kit and tool belt which I still own and cherish.

He was also very proud of me graduating from HS with honors and getting into accounting because he saw the value in that too.

Hey well your BS is a reality here regardless of what some site says. So I can’t help but wonder if those stats are skewed somehow because guys do make that here working in heavy manufacturing. $87K is Milwaukee Public School admin wages (one of the worst schools system in the US). Union barrel hwy guys make in the high $70Ks (plus benefits).

And you are using averages to make you case so that also is a stat which is not specific to any industry or manufacturing company.

They are not 'claims' but actual wages - H1B guys are not the issue - rather is: why they are here in first place - there are not enough QUALIFIED US engineers.

Also you forgot to mention all the Pakistani and Chinese engineers who are flown in free and given a modest home free plus 100K wage by various companies. This is not BS - get your head out of Stats.

Remaining unemployed after graduation could mean a host of other reasons besides no jobs - of which there are many. You do know that many kids do not want to leave home and move to a distant city where there are jobs and would rather live in mom's basement free.

Relying on statistics is never a way to prove of disprove anything as stats can tell you whatever it is that you want to find by simply using different formulae or other statistical tools.

I’m done with this topic, as I do know many people here that make the salaries I mentioned so its pointless to discuss this with a guy in some other state.

“Infrastructure? Sure, but unless it’s management in an office somewhere, with a free MSc degree in Civil Engineering attached to it...”

Call it what you will, in the office or in the field, logistics, HRM, accounting... operational mgmt... energy production... If it’s associated with electricity, it’s “electrical work”

So you are still defending the use of H1B trash instead of true-blue AMERICAN CITIZENS? Still putting down Americans and making excuses to hire foreign trash? Another anti-American globalist raises his head.

Why is that?

Oh, there are plenty of qualified American Engineers. They just won’t work for H1B wages, which average 34% less than the median wage or under H1B conditions. I know that data *only* comes from the USCIS and my previous data *only* comes from the US Census Bureau, but your personal stories are far more meaningful.

Let’s see. Islamic terrorist Pakis or Red Chinese. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Let’s bring more of this trash into the US as you feel Americans are just *UNQUALIFIED*

Still bad. Men’s employment rates are declining because women are preferred in hiring and admission to colleges - when employment often requires those credentials.

There is now systemic discrimination against men in the professions from college admissions to funding to internships to hiring.

Except colleges are discriminating against men in admissions to college including engineering to internships. And then they’ll take the few female candidates over the males, white guys last.

Actually admissions have swung around: there are so many more female students than male, yet women so overwhelmingly prefer to attend colleges that haven’t dipped below the tipping point of at least 40% male that many colleges have lower standards for men, just to avoid crossing that line

Latest five years, four Mothers Day sermons about how great mothers were with the other one being on raising kids. Fathers Day, nothing except a short blurb one of the Sundays to fathers about it is not what you say but what you do.

Father's Day these days often includes a "shoutout to all the single moms out there who are doing both jobs!"

Yes, fathers now share Father's Day with single moms. Keep your eyes out for this next Father's Day and you'll notice it as well.
