From a NASA article:

“Octavia Butler was the first African American woman to win both the Hugo and Nebula awards that honor great science fiction, and the first science fiction writer overall who received a MacArthur Fellowship. Her notable work includes the stories “Kindred,” “Bloodchild,” “Speech Sounds,” “Parable of the Sower,” “Parable of the Talents,” and the “Patternist” series. She died in 2006.”

I’m guessing that Issac Asimov Landing Site was already taken.

Issac Asimov is probably on a list to be “dissappeared” in the near future. Antifa would want to go to Mars to tear down his statue and the flag that the astronauts left.

Octavia Butler books are the science fiction version of critical race theory.

They are rasonably well written, but the point of view is extreme anti-western civilization.

One was terrible. I purchased it at a garage sale because it was "science fiction".

It was all terrible fiction, and no science.

Butler hated it herself, and refused to allow any reprints, so it was only printed once in paperback.

It was so bad, I tossed it - It may be the only book I have ever discarded!

Two years later...

I found it was so rare, Butler fans were paying $200 a copy. I see the price has dropped to $150.

Oops! I see, as with most collectibles, condition is everything!

Some copies of Butler's work Survivor, are bringing over $1,100!

More plebian copies bring $500!

It was one of the worst so called "Science Fiction" books I have ever read.

Examples:

Aliens that easily mate and reproduce with humans.

Aliens that are human shaped, but change their skin color so well, you can be in a small room with them, and never notice they are there!

Because of this, Human weapons are useless!

Meanwhile, primitive weapons are awesome!

I did a little more research on Octavia Butler's Survivor.

I was wrong. There were a couple of short runs before she banned any more.

To give an example of the insanity with these books, a signed copy went into the remainder bin (they are sprayed with a special paint to identify them as "remainders".

It is in near-fine condition. It has her signature.

Remember, it was so well accepted, a signed copy went into the remainder bin in 1979.

Today, the owner is asking $5,000.
